Brown University Online Bookstore

My role as manager of the risd:store website inspired me to tackle a refresh of the Brown University Online Bookstore. I developed sitemaps of their current information architecture and identified opportunities to reorganize and streamline content.

Visitors of the Brown University online bookstore have many different purposes for visiting the site. I knew how important it would be to segment each of these user groups. I achieved this by creating a horizontal split main navigation to visually segment these users as well. I placed the gift and apparel items to the left, and the textbooks, tradebooks, and tech center items to the right. I also created larger tiles for some of the more important categories to help guide users toward the information most important to them. I created an events calendar to help drive traffic to the website, and the brick and mortar location. I knew it would be important to promote featured gift items on the front page so I created a section that would dynamically populate six content blocks with featured gift and apparel merchandise. When I designed the footer for the site, I placed the contact form, hours information, address, map, etc all in this one location so visitors could easily obtain this general information.

On the individual gift/apparel item listing pages I modeled the interface after best-in-class online apparel and gift retailers. I added product filtering capability allowing users to locate products that fit their unique needs.
